St. Patrick's Day

Saint Patrick’s Day is a well-known cultural and religious feast held on 17 March in order to celebrate the saint patron of Ireland. Although the celebration originally was set to commemorate the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, it now became popular all over the world. It is believed that, according to the legend, Saint Patrick explained the idea of Holy Trinity to the pagans, by using the three-leaved shamrock. That is why the official color of the feast is green. Celebrations involves parades and festivals of Irish folk music. The biggest one is held in Dublin and lasts few days. But the most impressive one is the one in Chicago where the whole river is being dyed green. Everything becomes green on St. Patrick’s day: the Fountain in front the White House, The London Eye, Empire State Building, Niagara Falls, even the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw. According to the statistics each year, worldwide consumption of Guinness equals 13 million pints.

CareersDay

The 20th of March, the Poznan International Fair will hold the Careers Day. It’s a great opportunity to talk with employers about the possibility to work for their companies, check what abilities are now required in the labour market, take part in workshops and trainings and consult your CV in the Career Consulting Zone. Taking part in Careers Day gives you a chance to find a job or traineeship. If you are a student and you can’t figure out what is it that you want to do after graduation, maybe you could get inspired during the Careers Day. The whole event is organised by AIESEC, which is largest independent international organisation run by students in over 120 countries. The main purpose of AIESEC is to build a platform that would connect the academic world with the business world. The entrée is free, you can get your ticket on dnikariery.pl

FoodHall Poznan

For all the food lovers, there’s a new project that combines food and culture. The old building, of now out of order, Poznan Glowny Station each weekend- starting from the 23-25 th of March- will hold food trucks’ exhibitors as well as DJs and lots of other artists. Station Hall will be divided in two zones: the art zone and the chill zone (which is still kept as a secret), moreover there’ll be also a bar and of course food trucks’ site. The entrée is free, everyone can come and take part in the project. Each weekend there’s a different attraction provided. You can consult the list of exhibitors and musicians on the official event’ website on Facebook. I find it a truly pleasant way to spend your time, not only you can taste the food from different food trucks- all in the same place- but also divert yourself in the art zone. That’s why, I would recommend this project to everyone that has no idea what to do during a weekend 😉

Women's Day

8th of March is well-known as an international Women’s Day. Although in Poland we mainly associate this holiday with times of communism and PRL, it actually came from United States and was originally established in honour of women who died in fighting for gender equality. It all begun on march 8 th in 1908, when 15 000 women who worked for a fashion industry in New York initiated a strike with postulates of equal solarise. In 1909 The Socialist Party of America designated 28 th of February to honour them.   Later, in 1910- during the meeting in Copenhagen- The Socialist International established that the Women’s Day should have an international character and should be considered the day when women are appreciated for their achievements. Nowadays Women’s Day is rather a commercial holiday, we celebrate it through flowers and chocolates, some shops prepare special discounts for this day, etc. Most of the feminists doesn’t recognise this holiday and thinks that we forgot that it shoul
